Have you ever seen the movie Terminator? Well, if you haven’t, I will give you a synopsis. The terminator (basically a robot assassin disguised as a human) travels back in time to kill a woman named Sarah Connor because, in future, her unborn son would lead a fight against them.
This is basically exactly how the devil is. The devil knows what you will become. Even though he may not know how you will get there, he knows your potential and tries to do any and everything in his power to derail you from achieving your purpose.
The funny thing is, the devil is fully aware that he has already been defeated. He is just a really sore loser. In the book of Revelation, Revelation 12:7-12 to be exact, we learn that Satan and his angels were thrown out of heaven. The story ends with him being defeated by the blood sacrifice that Jesus, the Lamb, made on the cross. However, for the time being, Satan is here on earth and he knows his time is limited, but he refuses to go down without a fight. He is constantly trying to win over souls to take down with him. His sole mission is to destroy all that is good and to rob us of a life with Christ.
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. JOHN 10:10
With that being said, we are being suited up for a spiritual battle to combat the devil and all his schemes that are tasked to bring us down. We are reminded that we need to take up our spiritual clothing. We are told to "put off, concerning [our] former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts" (Eph 4:22-24) and to "put on the Lord Jesus Christ" (Rm 13:14).
that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. EPHESIANS 4:22-24
But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts. ROMANS 13:14
We are soldiers, but not just any soldier. We are the children of the undefeated King, “a chosen generation, a royal priesthood” (1 Pt 2:9). Jesus Christ has fought the battle and has already won and he granted us the armor of victory that we need to win.
Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; EPHESIANS 6:14-17
Remember, the battle has been won on the cross YET STILL the enemy rages. But, we do not need to fear because we were made to fight this battle. We have the armor given to us by our Father in heaven. So let’s go. We have a battle to win. SUIT UP!
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. EPHESIANS 6:10-11
